It’s not enough just to get a haircut nowadays. You have to style it, dye it, trim it and all of that crap. Since guys don’t really grow their hair out, braid it, or curl it, there aren’t a lot of hairstyles that are available. If you really want to impress her, you’re going to have to kick down for a good cut from a professional to get an alternative look and stand out.
The Faux Hawk
The faux hawk is for those who don’t want to go the full Monty and really cut their hair off completely on the sides. Each side of the head is buzzed down but not completely shaved, leaving the middle a bit longer. Style it up to make a punkier faux hawk (faux meaning fake). Leaving it down will give you a bit more of an emo or Justin Bieber style, which is too mainstream to be alternative.
Growing your hair out has become a California Boy trend. The key is to keep those flowing locks clean and textured. Use a sea salt spray product for hair that looks like you’ve been out catching waves all day.
The Textured Crop Top
No, this isn’t a shirt style, even though it sounds like one. Imagine the old-school flat tops of the eighties. Now add a bunch of texture to it. Texture is what makes the hair look jagged and pointy as opposed to having the surface of a table. It also points into a couple of different directions when it’s styled to give it a more laid back look.
The Wavy Blowback
This one just sounds like a move you’d see in a porn, but in actuality it’s a very classy looking hairstyle. (Hey, who says alternative can’t be a classy sort of sexy?) The hair is cut shorter in the front, creating some bangs. Those are then blown back with a blow-dryer to join the rest of the hair that it’s blended into this. This works especially well if you’ve got naturally wavy hair. Otherwise you’ll have to help it out with some curling cream.
The Layered Boy Cut
This cut is for men just as much as it is for boys. Do you remember the Julius Caesar style haircut that George Clooney had forever? We don’t either, but apparently this is the younger version of that. There’s still a small amount of fringe up front, but instead of being a blunt cut it’s got pieces cut out of it to create a spikier, more alternative edge.
No matter what hairstyle you have, you can make it more alternative by texturizing and/or layering it. If you’re in between cuts using hair products to hold your hair in a certain place or add texture to it will add enough interest in it to look unique. Whatever you’ve got, rock it like it’s the best style there is because having confidence in what you’ve got going on with your head will attract a woman no matter what is actually happening up there.
